About Us

Who we are.

A gospel-centered Southern Baptist church in Upland, California, led by Pastor Daniel Knott — gathered around the Word of God and joined together as one family in Christ.

Our heart

More than a service. A family.

True Community Baptist Church exists to glorify God by making disciples of Jesus Christ. We gather each Sunday not to put on a production, but to worship the living God, sit under the faithful preaching of His Word, and build one another up in love.

We are an autonomous local congregation in friendly cooperation with the Southern Baptist Convention. That means we govern ourselves under the lordship of Christ while partnering with churches across the world to send missionaries, plant churches, and serve those in need.

God alone is Lord of the conscience. We treasure our liberty in Christ and our accountability to one another under the authority of His Word.

Above all, we want to be what our name describes: a true community — people who have been reconciled to God through the cross of Jesus, and who, because of that, are being knit together with one another.

The good news

The gospel we proclaim.

Everything we do flows from one message: that God, rich in mercy, has made a way for sinners to be saved through His Son.

God

A holy Creator

There is one true and living God who made all things and made us for Himself — infinite in holiness, righteous in all His ways, and worthy of our worship.

Sin

A real problem

Made in God's image, we have nonetheless turned from Him. Our sin separates us from God and leaves us unable to save ourselves.

Christ

A perfect Savior

Jesus, fully God and fully man, lived without sin, died in our place, and rose from the grave — making the way for us to be forgiven and restored.

Faith

A free gift

Salvation is received, not earned. All who turn from sin and trust Jesus as Lord and Savior are made new and given eternal life.

Statement of faith

What we believe.

Together with Southern Baptists, we affirm the Baptist Faith and Message (2000) as a faithful summary of biblical truth. Below is a brief overview of its eighteen articles, in our own words.

I. The Scriptures
The Bible is God's inspired, fully true and trustworthy revelation of Himself. It is our supreme standard for everything we believe and do, and all of it points us to Jesus Christ.
II. God
There is one true and living God, eternally existing as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — three distinct persons in one undivided being, infinite in holiness and worthy of our love, reverence, and obedience.
III. Man
People are the special creation of God, made male and female in His image with great dignity. Yet through sin we have fallen, and only the grace of God can restore us to fellowship with Him.
IV. Salvation
Salvation is offered freely to all who trust Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Secured by His death and resurrection, it includes regeneration, justification, sanctification, and glorification — the redemption of the whole person.
V. God's Purpose of Grace
God graciously chooses to save sinners according to His mercy, in a way fully consistent with our freedom. Those truly saved are kept by His power and persevere to the end.
VI. The Church
A New Testament church is a local body of baptized believers, joined by covenant to worship, follow Christ's commands, and carry the gospel to the world. Scripture also speaks of the church as the whole redeemed family of God from every age and nation.
VII. Baptism & the Lord's Supper
Baptism by immersion pictures a believer's faith in the crucified and risen Christ and union with Him. The Lord's Supper is a memorial of His death and a looking forward to His return.
VIII. The Lord's Day
Sunday, the day of Christ's resurrection, is set apart for worship and devotion, both public and private.
IX. The Kingdom
God's kingdom is His reign over all creation and His rule in the hearts of those who follow Christ. We pray and labor for its advance, awaiting its fullness when Jesus returns.
X. Last Things
Jesus Christ will return in glory. The dead will be raised, all will be judged in righteousness, and the redeemed will dwell forever with the Lord.
XI. Evangelism & Missions
It is the duty and joy of every believer and every church to share the gospel and make disciples of all nations.
XII. Education
All truth and wisdom are found in Christ. Sound learning is part of our heritage, pursued under the lordship of Jesus and the authority of Scripture.
XIII. Stewardship
Everything we have belongs to God. We honor Him by giving our time, talents, and resources generously, cheerfully, and faithfully.
XIV. Cooperation
Churches voluntarily partner together for missions, education, and ministry that advance God's kingdom, with no group holding authority over another.
XV. The Christian & the Social Order
Christians seek to bring every part of life under Christ — loving their neighbors, caring for the vulnerable, and pursuing righteousness, truth, and justice rooted in the gospel.
XVI. Peace & War
Christians pursue peace on the principles of righteousness and pray for the day when the law of love taught by the Prince of Peace prevails among all people.
XVII. Religious Liberty
God alone is Lord of the conscience. Church and state are to remain separate, and every person should be free to worship without coercion or interference.
XVIII. The Family
God ordained the family as the foundation of human society. Marriage is the covenant union of one man and one woman, and the home is where faith is modeled and passed to the next generation.
